There's a 2025 update to a rule that you may never have noticed existed.
Previously, a batter running to first base was required to run on the right side of the foul line for the last half of the run (the last 45 feet.) That was okay for left-handed batters, since they were already positioned on the right side. But for left-handed batters, with the batter's box to the left of home plate, the runner needed to cross over to the right if the foul line – his run was not a straight line.
The 2025 rule book eliminates that requirement. A right-handed runner can now stay to the left of the foul line all the way to first base, no more crossing over.
